From Silicon Vally to New York City

Melanie had been rejected twice for her promotion requests before she started working with me.

“My boss said my voice couldn’t command attention in meetings and discussions.”

Melanie had been in the same job for the past 6 years in Silicon Valley and she couldn’t feel the motivation any more.

She had started applying for jobs in other companies but with no great prospects. She was crying during our 2nd coaching session, “I’m talented but no one knew.” I could relate to that. I could feel the frustration and pain she was going through. I hugged her, “Let’s transform you.” She doubted.

During our working together, it wasn’t an easy ride. Her old habits would often kick in and stop her from making progress. But she was determined and persistent.

Into the 4th month of our working together, she called me one day, “I couldn’t wait till the next session to tell you this! I was in a baby shower party yesterday. The baby’s mom asked us each to say something. When I spoke, I could see they were so engaged! Many of them came to me afterwards saying what I said resonated so much with them. I’m so glad that accidentally I stood out so much.”

I was so proud of her.

In the 5th month, she saw a job opening in her company in New York office. This job would be 2 levels up from her position. She was not sure if she could get it but wanted to give it a try. After 3 rounds of interviews over almost 2 months, she was offered the position! The CEO in the last round of the interview said to her, “You sounded so sure and authentic. You would be a great talent for the job.”

I was so happy for her.

She had started packing up with her family, ready to move to the Big Apple.

She wrote me a note on WhatsApp, “Thank you for always being there for me as a pillar of guidance and encouragement. I could never had imagined the transformation in me.”

I know Melanie is much happier now, not only because of the new position, but also the transformation she has made in her voice, her mindset and her life.

And that’s why I do what I do.

“I’m the soil
Nurturing you from seed to tree

I strive to be your inspiration
And I forgot to see
You are an inspiration to me
In helping you grow, I’ve grown.”

(This is an excerpt from a poem I wrote, dedicated to all my clients.)
